Tree planting campaign phase 2 - organized by ONG OLA Africa


The seedling planting in schools amis to combat desertification and raise awareness among pupils about the benefits of trees. The target schools are those that have no fences and few trees, so seedlings will be planted along their perimeters to add greenery and provide a sense of security. The initiative is in collaboration with the Borgou Forestry Inspectorate and forestry officers. Involving future generations is key to preserving our ecosystem. The BA Sustainable Development Studies, Youth Capacity Building, and African Relations Support Program, in collaboration with the Desert Research Center, organizes a workshop entitled “Towards Active Youth Action in Combating Desertification in Africa.” During multiple sessions, the workshop will address the issue of desertification on the African continent and ways to tackle it. It will also highlight the importance of biodiversity and how to preserve it, and will examine the uses of modern technology and geographic information systems in tackling the problem of desertification in Africa. Donga rehabilitation and restoration - organized by Ministry of Agriculture-Department of Land Use Planning and Development


A 20-hectare area of degraded land in Sigcaweni, Lubombo region, is being successfully rehabilitated to protect local livelihoods and infrastructure. A 0.5 km-long donga threatening grazing lands, homesteads and public utilities has been stabilized through water diversion, slope reshaping, fencing and vetiver grass planting. Ongoing efforts include planting fruit and wild trees to enhance economic opportunities and ecosystem resilience. Green Musketeer tells the inspiring story of Dutch inventor Pieter Hoff, whose mission to reforest two billion hectares of degraded land led to the creation of the Waterboxx® and Growboxx®—innovative tools that grow trees and vegetables in arid regions without irrigation. The film follows Hoff’s global efforts, his resilience in the face of setbacks, and his fight against illness, offering a moving portrait of visionary leadership and environmental innovation. The screening includes an introduction by his son, Wout Hoff, who now leads Groasis and continues this vital work. A post-film discussion with Wout will explore the ongoing impact of their mission.
